After a very laid back new years eve party (people and food were great particularly liked the chicken wings,thanks Jeff&Rebecca) I went to the house i am sitting and thought i would pick up my stuff and head for home about a 40 mile drive,but fell asleep in a chair and woke several hours later.By then there was a half a foot of snow and it was almost a whiteout.of course i jumped in my car and took off for home.
imediatly i felt the problem, my tires were as bald as a baby’s ass , so the normal 40 minute drive turned into a 2 hour harrowing experience i slid ,shimmied and shook at about 20 mph east on RTE 17.when i reached Hancock i was in heaven ,so i went to McD’s and got a coffee. a couple of old timers (Howard and Butch) said they hadn’t seen a snow plow yet so were staying there at McD’s drinking free refills until they came(quick aside)McD’s has half price coffee for senior citzens and free refills besides. Howard once drove from Hancock to Florida and stopped at every McD’s he saw and got a FREE refill,tricky bastard.
I couldn’t wait had to get home , so i set out it was beautiful, silent sunny and I saw a bald eagle , while i am admiring our national symbol I look up and a tree has fallen across about 80% of the road i turn left start sliding and miraculously miss the tree.i continue on ,paying a lot more attention to the road until i arrive in Equinunk ( a small town across the river from Lordville )
the snow plow has not yet made it to town so i sit in the middle of the road for about 10 minutes until he arrives. he says “are you going to Lordville?” i answer him and he says follow but not closely and we set off . we start up the hill and about half way up he starts slidding backwards right at me.i slam on my brakes and spin 180 degrees and am now heading DOWN the hill , in what seemed like forever i finally stopped and so did he . well the end is anti-climatic he put chains on the truck and we made it no problem.
